Principal Data Engineer - Global Cybersecurity Data & Analytics

Liberty Mutual is hiring a Principal Data Engineer for its Global Cybersecurity Data and Analytics team in Columbus, OH (onsite). This role focuses on delivering actionable cybersecurity and governance insights through data engineering, architecture, pipelines, and interactive visualizations. You will have the opportunity to shape enterprise data foundations while working with modern cloud and analytics technologies.

Compensation: USD 120,000 - 225,000 per yearly. The typical starting salary range is determined by factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects competitive labor market value and provides opportunities to progress as employees grow within the role. Some roles may include commission and/or bonus under the relevant compensation plan.

Responsibilities

• Consult on designing and developing complex programs and tools for ingestion, curation, and provisioning of enterprise data to support analytics, reporting, and data science.
• Build and design data architecture that improves accessibility, efficiency, governance, and data quality.
• Collect, clean, and transform traditional and big data to improve accuracy and accessibility.
• Recommend improvements for data practices and drive those recommendations forward.
• Develop deep knowledge of technology enablers that support enterprise data and analytics.
• Document existing processes, organizational structures, architectures, and external systems.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of solutions that support key business outcomes.
• Create interactive, visually appealing data visualizations of large datasets to surface patterns, trends, and correlations.
• Provide guidance on Power BI visualization capabilities and functionalities, and educate stakeholders on using visualizations.
• Use AI tools to improve the speed, quality, and scale of work, while critically evaluating and validating outputs and applying AI responsibly to protect confidential and customer data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline (technical degree preferred) or equivalent experience.
• Generally 8+ years of professional experience.
• In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies.
• In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles.
• Knowledge of data engineering languages and tools, with proficiency in new and emerging technologies.
• In-depth understanding of layered solution designs, shared data engineering concepts and product features, with security-minded thinking.
• In-depth understanding of business operations, objectives, and strategies, including global business and technology trends in the financial services industry.
• Strong negotiation, consensus building and influencing skills, plus facilitation and adaptability to respond to change.
• Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Solid Python (Pandas) and SQL skills with analytical and critical thinking, plus an understanding of big data technologies.
• Understanding of machine learning principles, statistics, and algorithms.
• Knowledge of Data Warehouse solutions, modeling, and governance.

Experience & Tools

• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud environments.
• Power BI development including DAX and M query, plus Power BI gateway.
• Snowflake administration experience.
• AWS Airflow experience.
• Experience with ETL (extract, transfer, and load) and data pipeline technology.
• Proven experience in data modeling, governance, and analytics.
• Ability to leverage and build APIs.
• Python programming knowledge and SQL query/data management experience.
