Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Based onsite in Redmond, WA, the Principal Machine Learning Engineer role within Microsoft Health Futures centers on accelerating the training of generative models and advancing ML pipelines. This hands-on position involves close collaboration with ML researchers, software engineers, and domain experts to improve training, evaluation, and high‑performance inference.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design and implementation of machine learning models and systems for health and life sciences applications, ensuring scalability, robustness, and reliability.
• Shape the technical strategy and architecture for end-to-end ML pipelines, covering data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, researchers, and software engineers to envision and build AI enhanced scientific systems.
• Mentor engineers and researchers, promoting best practices in ML development, rigorous experimentation, and responsible AI principles.
• Ensure security, privacy, and regulatory compliance across ML workflows and data handling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
