Research Data Analyst

Avera McKennan is seeking a Research Data Analyst to support researchers and study staff with analysis and management of complex health research data. In this onsite role in Pierre, SD, you will help translate study data into reliable findings by building research databases, performing data quality work, and assisting with documentation and visual outputs used for reporting and publications.

This position focuses on practical data management across the full study lifecycle, including preparation for data collection, ongoing quality control, and final archiving of study datasets and supporting materials. The role also includes clear communication of data management concepts so teams can apply consistent methods throughout the research process.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate on data quality and control processes and monitor progress to support research goals.
• Build and manage complex research databases, including creating metadata and appropriate data dictionaries.
• Assist in creating case report forms (CRFs) and define data collection processes.
• Create documentation that explains research data management best practices used in reports, processes, and analyses.
• Archive data and projects, including metadata and study documents.
• Use data visualization to prepare quality figures, tables, and results for journal publications, reports, and presentations.
• Communicate data management concepts to researchers and study staff across experience levels and backgrounds.
• Consult with researchers and study staff to ensure proper data collection and management methods during the study lifecycle.
• Demonstrate accountability by ensuring data integrity and reproducibility across all activities.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science (program).
• Experience with scientific research and statistical programming (R, SAS, SPSS, Python, etc.), plus database building and management.

Role details

• Location: Pierre, SD 57501 (onsite)
• Salary: USD 58,240 - 87,360 per year
• Position highlights: This position can be based out of Sioux Falls, Pierre, or Rapid City.

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science (program).
• Consulting, statistical analysis, other programming languages, and/or experience with the REDCap electronic data capture system.
