Senior AI Engineer at Amplitude drives AI product development and platform infrastructure, shipping capabilities customers rely on and guiding the platform's AI systems roadmap.

  • Salary: USD 190,000 - 316,000 per year
  • Experience required: 3+ years

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high impact AI features and products that transform how customers and internal teams work, spanning agentic workflows to embedded intelligence across the Amplitude platform
  • Architect and build the core infrastructure for Amplitude's AI systems, including orchestration, evaluation, retrieval, context management, and integrations with the broader product ecosystem
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities by deeply understanding user workflows, customer pain points, and emerging capabilities in the AI ecosystem
  • Create reusable patterns, primitives, and components to enable other engineers to ship AI features reliably and consistently
  • Drive adoption and quality through close collaboration with product, design, and customer-facing teams, with a focus on real usage and measurable outcomes
  • Set the technical direction for AI systems at Amplitude, making thoughtful build vs buy decisions, shaping evaluation strategy, and influencing the long-term roadmap

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years building production LLM or applied AI systems
  • Experience designing and scaling AI products, platforms, or developer tools with real users and reliability constraints
  • Deep familiarity with the modern AI landscape: model APIs, agent frameworks, evals, retrieval, prompting, tool use, and the tradeoffs between approaches
  • Strong product sense and systems thinking; know when to prototype, harden, or invest in durable infrastructure
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to align across engineering, design, product, and go-to-market

About the role

  • We are seeking a Senior AI Engineer to advance Amplitude's AI products and the foundational systems they rely on. As AI reshapes data analysis, product development, and action on insights, we need engineers who balance deep technical work with product judgment to ship AI capabilities that customers and internal teams depend on
  • The role combines vision and hands-on work. You will identify where AI yields the most leverage, build the systems that deliver it, and establish patterns that enable the broader company to build faster on top of your work
  • You will contribute to customer-facing AI products, the platform infrastructure beneath them, and the internal tooling that helps Amplitude operate as an AI-native company
