Senior Data Analyst - Risk Product
Job Description
Northwestern Mutual is hiring a Senior Data Analyst to support its Risk Product team within a hybrid work environment in Milwaukee, WI. In this role, you will help Sales Enablement teams move from complex information to clear insights, practical reporting, and data-driven recommendations that improve performance and strengthen processes.
What you’ll do
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to surface patterns, trends, insights, and opportunities that inform business decisions.
- Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and forecasts so leaders can understand performance and take action.
- Apply analytics and metrics to evaluate business processes, identify risks or opportunities, and recommend next steps.
- Convert complex findings into clear written, verbal, and presentation-based insights for department leaders and business clients.
- Produce actionable reporting focused on key performance indicators (KPIs), improvement areas, and root-cause analysis.
- Partner with stakeholders to define business questions, user needs, current processes, and the decisions analysis must support.
- Build and maintain KPI frameworks that connect data, performance measures, and business outcomes.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret data from multiple internal and external sources to support decision-making.
- Use data visualization best practices to ensure dashboards and reports are clear, useful, and easy to understand.
- Initiate the design and development of analytical deliverables based on business needs, findings, and stakeholder priorities.
- Provide consultation to business clients and participate in cross-functional efforts to address business issues.
- Develop deep expertise in at least one business domain while maintaining broad understanding of related functions.
- Support continuous improvement by sharing insights, best practices, methodologies, and standards across teams.
- Bring creative problem-solving, curiosity, and new perspectives to improve analytical capabilities and business impact.
- Work through ambiguity and changing priorities while delivering high-quality, value-driven results.
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Business, or a related field.
- 4–5+ years of professional experience in analytics, reporting, data analysis, or a related field, including at least 4 years in an analytics-related role.
- At least 3 years of hands-on analytics experience.
- Experience conducting research, applying statistical techniques, developing reports, or building analytical solutions to support business decisions and outcomes.
- Proficiency with analytical tools such as SQL, SAS, Microsoft Excel, SPSS, R, or similar platforms.
- Experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting platforms.
- Ability to access, gather, analyze, and interpret data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Ability to identify business trends, performance drivers, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
- Strong communication skills to explain insights clearly to business stakeholders, including adaptive communication for decision support.
- Storytelling through data by connecting insights, trends, and recommendations into a clear business narrative.
- Strong foundation in data analytics, data literacy, analytical thinking, and root-cause analysis.
- Hands-on ability with SQL to pull, organize, join, and model data for reporting and dashboards.
- Ability to develop dashboards and visualizations using Tableau or Power BI so stakeholders can interpret and act on results.
- Strong attention to detail, business curiosity, and capability to produce high-quality work that supports meaningful business outcomes.

- Salary range: USD 89,360 - 154,200 per year
- Pay range start: $89,360.00
- Pay range end: $134,040.00
- Geographic specific pay structure:
- Structure 110: $98,320.00 - $147,480.00
- Structure 115: $102,800.00 - $154,200.00
