Job Description

In Los Angeles, The Norland Group is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a one-year, on-site contract. You will help design and operate scalable data platforms on Azure, leverage Databricks, and implement API management and data governance to support enterprise analytics. The role includes hands-on delivery and leadership across data pipelines, infrastructure deployment, and cloud-based data assets, with a standard 40-hour work week.

Requirements

  • Cloud Platforms: Azure ecosystem including Azure Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Blob Storage, Power Apps, and Functions; API management with Apigee; Databricks; Spark; PySpark; Scala; SQL
  • Data Engineering Fundamentals: ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing
  • Programming Languages: Strong Python and SQL skills; knowledge of Scala or R is beneficial
  • Data Warehousing and BI: ERD concepts and designs; OLAP/OLTP understanding; performance tuning; database concepts; BI tools such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Data Governance: RBAC/ABAC, data lineage, data leak prevention, data security, and compliance; audit and monitoring in cloud environments
  • Infrastructure Deployment: GitHub version control, CI/CD pipelines, release management; Terraform and YAML templates; script-based deployments
  • Experience: Seven plus years applying Enterprise Architecture principles, with at least five years in a lead capacity
  • Azure Experience: Five years of hands-on work with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, API implementation and management, and managing Azure resources
  • Data Modeling and Pipelines: Five+ years developing data models and pipelines using Python; experience with Lakehouse platforms; GitHub CI/CD; Terraform scripting; data warehousing (OLAP/OLTP); BI tool integration; designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML and predictive analytics solutions using Databricks, Apache Spark, MLflow, and Delta Lake on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related IT field
