Senior Data Engineer

Build and scale data platforms that help teams deliver business capabilities faster. Fifth Third Bank is hiring a Senior Data Engineer in Cincinnati, OH (onsite) to design reusable data platforms, tools, and solutions for everything from data collection and storage to processing and data services. You will also support production data platforms, participate in escalated on-call for critical incidents, and provide technical guidance and mentoring to other team members.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and support data solutions, APIs, tools, and processes that enable rapid delivery of business capabilities.
• Partner with IT application teams, Enterprise architecture, infrastructure, information security, and LOB stakeholders to turn business and technical strategies into data-driven solutions.
• Serve as a technical expert for complex topics across system and application design, performance, integration, and security.
• Conduct research and development using current trends and technologies related to banking, data engineering and architecture, data security, and adjacent areas.
• Collaborate with developers to build CI/CD pipelines, self-service build tools, and automated deployment processes.
• Evaluate software products and provide documented recommendations when needed.
• Provide support and troubleshooting for data platforms, including willingness to handle escalated on-call for complicated or critical incidents.
• Participate in planning for hardware and software.
• Work on internal initiatives such as legacy system replacement, monitoring and analytics improvements, tool development, and technical documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring for team members, and manage and prioritize multiple assignments.

Required skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 6 years of related experience, including at least 4 years in a hands-on software development role.
• Significant experience with at least one major RDBMS product.
• Experience supporting Unix/Linux and Windows systems.
• Proficiency in relational database modeling concepts and techniques.
• Strong conceptual understanding of distributed computing principles.
• Working knowledge of application and data security concepts, best practices, and common vulnerabilities.
• Ability to communicate ideas verbally and in writing to management, business and IT sponsors, and technical resources in appropriate language for each group.
