Senior Data Scientist

Walmart is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for an on-site role in Bentonville, Arkansas, to design, build, and deploy ML and agentic AI solutions that drive measurable business outcomes. You will partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous problems into scalable data products, leading end-to-end model development with a focus on responsible AI. The position offers a salary range of USD 90,000 to 180,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Develops and deploys machine learning and agentic AI solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
• Collaborates with product, engineering, and business teams to translate vague problems into scalable data products, applying modern ML techniques (supervised and unsupervised learning, NLP/LLMs, forecasting, optimization) and agentic patterns (tool use, planning, multi-step reasoning, workflow orchestration).
• Owns the end-to-end model lifecycle—from data exploration and feature engineering to evaluation, productionization, monitoring, and continuous improvement—while upholding responsible, secure, and reliable AI practices.

Requirements

• Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years of analytics experience.
• Option 2: Master's degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 year of analytics experience.
• Option 3: 5+ years of analytics or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Data science, machine learning, optimization models; Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics
• Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
• Experience with open source frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
