TikTok is strengthening its risk controls for e-commerce and online shopping experiences, seeking a machine learning specialist to build robust defenses across the TikTok Shop ecosystem. This on-site role in Seattle centers on crafting ML solutions to prevent and detect risks, while working with cross-functional teams to safeguard the platform and its users.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and deploy advanced machine learning models to counteract business risks across TikTok products and platforms.
- Build prototypes, explore conceptually new solutions, design experiments to validate hypotheses, and share insights with Product and Tech teams.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams spanning data science, engineering, and business to enhance automation processes.
- Create efficient data querying pipelines for offline and online analysis, identify evolving attack patterns, and uncover opportunities to strengthen defenses.
- Define risk control metrics, quantify and monitor risk-related business and operational indicators, and align stakeholders on numeric goals to drive data-driven risk practices.
- Maintain technical documentation and communicate results through writing, visuals, and presentations for diverse audiences.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or a closely related STEM field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience building and delivering machine learning models for large-scale projects.
- Track record of developing models and visualizations using programming and scripting languages such as Scala, Python, R, Ruby, and/or Matlab; proficiency in Java, C++, or Python is expected.
- Experience applying forecasting, machine learning, and statistical tools and communicating results, plans, and risks clearly.
- Creative problem-solving ability and strong analytical mindset.
- Experience collaborating with product, operations, and engineering teams is a plus.
- Experience in e-commerce or online companies focused on fraud or risk control is advantageous.

Salary and Compensation
Base salary range: USD 148,200 – 300,960 annually. Compensation may vary outside this range based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is part of the total package, which may include discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.
