Job Description

Navy Federal Credit Union is hiring an Associate Data Scientist to support analytical work that turns data into actionable insights. In this onsite role, you will contribute to routine predictive modeling and data analysis under close supervision while building foundational skills across machine learning, programming, and advanced mathematics.

This position supports team initiatives by designing and evaluating predictive models, analyzing results, and communicating findings clearly through documentation and presentations. The role is based in the Winchester, VA area.

Role Overview

  • Provide analytical insights by applying basic machine learning, programming, data modeling, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns and identify opportunities to drive impact.
  • Complete routine predictive modeling and analysis assignments under close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate routine predictive models and algorithms.
  • Analyze and interpret data results with limited complexity.
  • Develop and code routine software programs, algorithms, and automated processes.
  • Use modeling and trend analysis to examine patterns.
  • Support and participate in team projects and initiatives.
  • Document and present findings using effective written and verbal communication.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computers Science, Engineering, or similar quantitative fields.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of exploratory data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, programming, data modeling, simulation, and mathematics.
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, Scala, and AWS.
  • Familiarity with model lifecycle execution.
  • Technical writing, along with data storytelling and technical presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated research skills, interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate and build relationships.
  • Initiative with sound judgement and technical problem solving as issues are identified.
  • Technical capabilities spanning Big Data Analysis, coding, project management, and technical writing.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Compensation

  • $70,000 - $118,050 per year
  • Salary is based on experience, location, and market position within the stated range.
