Senior Data Scientist
Job Description
Microsoft is hiring a Senior Data Scientist in Redmond, WA onsite to support Media Data Science & Analytics (Frontier Marketing) with causal measurement of incremental advertising impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and apply causal inference approaches (quasi-experimental methods, incrementality testing, observational analysis) to estimate the impact of media investments when randomized experiments are limited or infeasible.
- Assess marketing strategy performance while accounting for data limitations, confounding, selection bias, and uncertainty.
- Convert causal findings into decision-oriented narratives for senior marketing and business stakeholders.
- Use advanced statistical techniques and machine learning as appropriate, emphasizing interpretability and causal validity over purely predictive performance.
- Choose methods that fit the data and business context, balancing rigor with practical constraints.
- Write high-quality, reusable analytical code in Python and SQL to support reproducible research, exploratory analysis, and ongoing measurement.
- Identify measurement improvements, validate assumptions, and promote best practices informed by academic research and industry experience.
- Prepare, validate, and analyze complex marketing datasets, including identifying data quality issues, structural changes, and limitations that affect inference.
- Proactively communicate data risks, constraints, and implications to senior partners, with appropriate scoping and caveats.
- Maintain high standards for data ethics, privacy, and responsible use across collection, modeling, and interpretation.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques, reporting results).
