Senior Data Scientist

This Senior Data Scientist role at PhaseV is based onsite in Cambridge, MA and centers on machine learning and statistics, with a particular emphasis on causal inference for clinical trial use cases. The position supports rigorous analysis, method development, and close collaboration with both technical and domain stakeholders.

Role Overview

PhaseV is seeking a talented Data Scientist to join its research team. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in machine learning and statistics along with an interest in causal inference. This is an integral role that includes direct interface with clients.

The work requires strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations with a proactive approach. The role also offers autonomy and the opportunity to contribute to a growing business.

• Causal Responder Detection
• Robust CATE Estimation Using Novel Ensemble Methods.

Responsibilities

• Implement and optimize machine learning algorithms, with a focus on causal ML applications in clinical trials
• Partner with senior data scientists to develop and improve analytical platforms
• Work with clinical and biological experts to convert complex problems into technical solutions
• Perform rigorous statistical analyses on both randomized and observational data
• Develop and validate methods for responder identification and treatment effect estimation
• Document and present methodologies and results for internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business development teams
• Participate in technical discussions and contribute to peer code reviews
• Support preparation of technical documentation and research papers

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Ph.D. is an advantage, but not required
• 3+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles
• Experience applying machine learning in a practical research or industry setting
• Background in statistical modeling and analysis
• Work experience in a biotechnology or life sciences environment
• Strong programming skills in Python (experience with R is an advantage)
• Proficiency in statistical analysis and machine learning
• Experience with data visualization and communicating technical concepts
• Ability to communicate results clearly and effectively
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with causal inference concepts
• Experience with large-scale data processing
