Job Description

YouTube is expanding its Shorts Creation data science efforts with a Senior Research Data Scientist who will build models, metrics, and data-driven insights to shape product decisions. This onsite role in San Bruno connects with multiple teams to translate complex questions into actionable analyses that drive meaningful outcomes for users and the product.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across cross-functional projects to identify and clarify business or product questions, offering feedback to translate these questions into tractable analyses, evaluation metrics, or mathematical models.
  • Leverage custom data infrastructure or existing data models as appropriate, applying specialized knowledge to design and evaluate models that mathematically express and solve defined problems with limited precedent.
  • Work with engineering and product teams to create new metrics, maintain classifiers, enable insights, and drive data driven decision making.
  • Own the process of gathering, extracting, and compiling data across sources using tools such as SQL, R, and Python, formatting and restructuring data to ensure quality and readiness for analysis.
  • Support launch decisions through experimental design and analysis.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 3 years of work experience with a PhD degree.

Location: San Bruno, CA (onsite). Salary: USD 174,000 - 253,000 per year. Minimum experience: 3 years. Education: Master’s degree.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $174,000 - $253,000 (USD) plus a 15% bonus target plus equity plus benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.
