Senior Risk Analytics Software Engineer - AVP

Barclays is seeking a Senior Risk Analytics Software Engineer - AVP to design, build, test, and support technology solutions focused on Risk Analytics, Market Risk, and regulatory initiatives. The role operates in an Agile environment with an emphasis on scalable, secure, high-performance software.

Role Purpose

The position exists to design, develop, and improve software using a range of engineering methodologies, enabling business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring the resulting code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and support seamless integration aligned to business objectives.
• Participate in peer collaboration and code reviews, promoting code quality and knowledge sharing across the team.
• Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Apply effective unit testing practices to support proper code design, readability, and reliability.
• Advise and influence decision-making through contributions to policy development and operational effectiveness, working closely with other functions and business divisions.
• Lead a team executing complex tasks where the work impacts the whole business function, including setting objectives and coaching employees, conducting performance appraisal relative to objectives, and determining reward outcomes.

• For individual contributor arrangements, lead collaborative assignments, guide team members through structured work, identify when additional specialization is needed, and propose new directions for assignments or projects using cross-functional methodologies or practices.

• Identify opportunities to mitigate risk and develop new policies or procedures that support the control and governance agenda.
• Own risk management and strengthening of controls related to the work performed.
• Engage in complex data analysis using information from multiple sources, internal and external, to solve problems creatively and effectively.
• Communicate complex information, including sensitive information or content that is difficult to convey based on audience needs, and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Required Experience and Skills

• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining analytics and reporting platforms that support data-driven business and risk management decisions.
• Hands-on experience building data transformation, enrichment, and workflow orchestration solutions for scalable data pipelines.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and experience with frameworks and tools including FastAPI, Spring Boot, and Apache Airflow.
• Proven programming expertise in Python and/or Java, Spark, SQL, Hadoop, Pandas, NumPy, Unix/Linux environments, and PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with software testing and development best practices, including PyTest, unit testing, and Python package management tools such as pip, Poetry, and Conda.

Highly Valued Skills

• Considerable knowledge of risk management principles and regulatory frameworks, including Value at Risk (VaR), Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB), and Basel standards.
• Experience working with cloud and data platforms such as AWS, Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake.
• Solid understanding of data governance, data quality management, regulatory controls, and compliance requirements.

Compensation

USD 120,000 - 175,000 per year (base salary). The stated range includes only base salary and does not include other compensation or benefits.
