Sr Data Engineer 1

ComEd is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, test, implement, and maintain data solutions and processes that support Exelon Utility Analytics. This onsite role in Oakbrook Terrace, IL gives you the opportunity to partner across business and IT to strengthen data reliability, improve services, and help enforce security controls that protect systems and data.

What you’ll do

• Perform, document, and assist in planning work activities for projects, sub-projects, or processes, including analyzing requirements, designing, building, and testing IT software solutions in line with IT project management standards.
• Enhance, maintain, or support existing IT products and processes to meet defined service level agreements.
• Support product and service documentation by applying best practices to improve what business unit partners receive, and help monitor adherence to standards within the Team/Group as defined within the Management Model.
• Maintain and strengthen engagement with business, IT partners, and other stakeholders.
• Help create a positive team environment by assisting and training less experienced personnel.
• Build technical knowledge and business acumen within your discipline or function.

You’ll also take ownership of security and operations-related analysis: designing, implementing, and enforcing security policies and controls to prevent unauthorized access; analyzing data security system utilization patterns to keep management informed and preparing related reports. The role includes making informed decisions on monitoring settings (including sample size, level of criticality, and some self-healing opportunities), driving innovation through evaluation and application of lessons learned, and resolving complex problems with support from vendors and other IT professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline.
• 4-7 years relevant experience in data warehouse design, business intelligence reporting, and ETL/TLT processing, or 6-9 years equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• In-depth knowledge of Big Data and its impact on the company’s systems infrastructure.
• Experience implementing enterprise-wide data standards, including business definitions and naming standards.
• Experience participating in user interviews as part of a systems development team to gather information for analysis or technical work.
• Ability to use PowerShell, Ansible, or another suitable scripting tool to automate common tasks, create reports, and troubleshoot issues with existing scripts.
• Strong understanding of how the System Development Life Cycle phase fits into the overall development lifecycle.
• High proficiency in disseminating information to users, management, customers, and others with limited subject knowledge.
• Thorough understanding of effective use of a variety of tools in complex applications.
• Solid understanding of standard monitoring tool capabilities.

• Annual salary: $104,800.00 to $144,100.00 (varies by skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors)
