Job Description

The Sr Principal AI Engineer Systems role supports mission support AI and secure cloud system capabilities at an onsite Northern Virginia location. The position focuses on developing and integrating “Home-Grown” mission support AI solutions alongside AWS and hybrid-cloud engineering and administration.

Location

Chantilly, VA (onsite). This position will be located at a mission systems sector site in Northern Virginia.

Compensation

USD 172,100 - 258,100 per yearly (primary level salary range).

Role Summary

Serve as a senior principal AI engineer systems supporting mission support AI and secure cloud systems. Responsibilities include development and integration of “Home-Grown” mission support AI solutions and administrative support for AWS and hybrid-cloud systems in a classified, onsite environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate “Home-Grown” mission support AI solutions.
  • Provide engineering and administrative support onsite for a team of developers and testers, including operating with deviations from industry standard procedures to meet mission needs while maintaining system security standards.
  • Work as part of a team to design, build, and maintain AWS and hybrid-cloud systems.
  • Administer systems based on Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot IP networking systems for AWS and hybrid-cloud systems, including IPv4 networking.
  • Automate system deployment, operations, and maintenance using Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tooling.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a US citizen with an active TS/SCI with Polygraph to be considered.
  • Experience requirement: 8 years with a Bachelor’s Degree, 6 years with a Master’s, 4 years with a PhD, or 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and administering cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with architecture, maintenance, and administration of Linux and Windows Operating Systems within large enterprise environments.
  • Experience automating tasks using tools such as Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, Puppet, or Python.
  • Proven experience working within IT Systems Design, Deployment and Administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud service certification (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google, or similar).
  • Experience developing, deploying, and working through accreditation approvals for AI systems in a mission environment.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages.
  • Extensive experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting IPv4 networking, including Subnetting, OSPF routing, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Recent roles in technical or team leadership positions.
  • Knowledge of cloud database management (e.g., MySQL RDS and PostgreSQL).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity in the context of the cloud.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile Development environment.
  • Experience managing and manipulating containers (e.g., Podman, Docker, Kubernetes).
