Job Description

AI Engineer role based onsite in Stratford, CT at Yale New Haven Health.

Responsibilities

  • Guide a team of analysts and/or programmers in developing and supporting automated and manual systems, offering technical guidance on analytical tasks.
  • Coordinate projects that involve multiple departmental team members across the organization.
  • Evaluate requests for systems development and enhancements to determine feasibility and value.
  • Analyze client requests and needs, including data analysis and resource identification.
  • Conduct needs analysis studies by assessing the current environment through observation, interviews, and review of existing documentation, manuals, and forms.
  • Identify problems and define actionable solutions.
  • Collaborate with users and the ITS Team Lead to document current and future business needs.
  • Review vendor documentation regarding changes and upgrades to systems.
  • Document detailed design specifications; participate in designing production and conversion plans to ensure a smooth transition to new environments; design input and output formats, screens, and reports with input from the application owner and leadership.
  • Investigate reported problems and determine root causes.
  • Design interfaces, both automated and manual, between users and systems.
  • Provide clinical systems analysts with tools to enhance knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop test data and/or design test protocols.
  • Urgent issues: acknowledge within 1 hour and resolve within 6 hours.
  • Develop user and ITS procedure manuals.
  • Monitor progress against the project plan and generate management reports as required.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the ITS team, leading maintenance and development plans for assigned systems.
  • Assess outside software for compliance with ITS guidelines and make recommendations for acquisition.
  • Help determine the nature and scope of project activities and processes to be developed or modified; recommend technical programming approaches for complex applications.
  • Create program specifications, flow charts, and decision tables for translation into code for complex programs.
  • Specify and arrange test data, coordinate test processing for newly developed systems, and troubleshoot by isolating and correcting testing errors.
  • Develop or assist in developing the most complex programming routines and functions aligned with detailed design and user needs.
  • Provide technical expertise for cost and time estimates and the resources required to develop or modify systems.
  • Develop performance metrics and a formal statement of expected performance for new or modified systems, including the sequence of significant processes and functional segments.
  • Perform job duties in alignment with MIS standards and may initiate standards when appropriate.
  • Contribute to the I Am Yale-New Haven service excellence program and support the organization’s Vision, Mission, and Values, along with department competencies such as customer focus, problem solving, innovation, and adaptability.
  • Foster positive and constructive working relationships within the department.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related disciplines, or technical training with work experience (courses in systems analysis and design, DBMS, screen design, forms design, data gathering, oral and written communication).
  • Eight (8) years or more of experience in programming and analytical activities, including at least four (4) years of analytical experience; experience in online, real time, and database environments; healthcare experience preferred.
  • Must have a current driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, manage multiple tasks, communicate effectively, solve problems, and develop creative solutions while escalating issues as needed.
  • Ability to work well under tight time constraints and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision on projects with a small to mid-size scope.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, listening, attention to detail, and innovative thinking skills; ability to inspire others.
