Job Description
Charles Schwab’s AI Strategy & Transformation team, AI.x, is building GenAI solutions that support client experience and translate new capabilities into business value. In this onsite role in San Francisco, you’ll help design, develop, and deliver GenAI applications, working alongside architects, engineers, and business leaders.
As an AI Engineer, you will contribute through the full path from early concepts to production iterations, while learning from senior engineers and reinforcing strong engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, development, and delivery of GenAI applications that enhance client experience and create business value.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and business leaders to ensure solutions align with Schwab’s enterprise strategy.
- Learn from senior engineers, join technical discussions, and help build strong engineering practices through continuous learning.
- Solve complex technical challenges, support best engineering standards, and help drive iterations from concept to production.
- Apply curiosity and creativity along with technical skill to shape the next generation of AI at Schwab.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software development experience and 1+ year as a hands-on engineer in startups and/or large organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 2+ years building products and supporting them in production environments.
- 1+ year developing applications that use Artificial Intelligence (AI) models to deliver business impact.
- 1+ year working with applications or data pipelines interfacing with large datasets.
- 1+ year experience with containers and cloud-native applications, including exposure to deploying to the public cloud using infrastructure as code.

Preferred Qualifications
- Strong computer science fundamentals with experience across different parts of the tech stack.
- Exposure to proprietary or open-source LLMs (Gemini, Claude, OpenAI or other models) and contributing to LLM-powered applications.
- Commitment to quality, including experience writing and maintaining tests.
- Experience evaluating and monitoring LLM-generated outputs for quality and consistency.
- Strong communication skills, able to share ideas clearly verbally and in writing.
- Interest in mentoring peers and learning from senior engineers through feedback and code reviews.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Ability to tackle complex problems, including with ambiguous or incomplete data, within distributed systems.
- Broad business domain knowledge related to products you have contributed to.
- Curiosity about new technologies and processes, with a drive to grow skills and share knowledge.
- Experience with Python and front-end development is preferred but not required.
- Master’s or advanced degrees in Computer Science or related fields are a plus.
