Analytics Engineer
Job Description
Robert Half is seeking an Analytics Engineer for an onsite contract in Urbandale, IA, with the potential to convert to a permanent role. The position centers on building scalable data models and BI solutions that translate complex data into clear, reliable insights across both on-premises and cloud environments.

Responsibilities
- Design and maintain dimensional data models to back reporting requirements, including star and snowflake schemas, fact tables, dimension tables, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Develop relational data models using solid database design principles, ensuring proper keys, clearly defined entity relationships, and data integrity standards.
- Build and refine semantic layers for reporting and analytics in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and tabular modeling environments.
- Develop calculations, measures, and reusable logic to standardize reporting and support authoritative business definitions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business questions into scalable BI models and practical analytical solutions.
- Implement data governance practices to improve model quality, consistency, and alignment with enterprise reporting standards.
- Leverage DAX and Power Query to prepare, model, and optimize data for dashboards, reports, and self-service analytics.
- Contribute to analytics initiatives that connect on-premises data with cloud platforms such as Fabric, Synapse, Databricks, or similar technologies.
- 3+ years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or a closely related data-focused role.
- Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling concepts, including star schemas, snowflake schemas, fact tables, dimension tables, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Experience with relational database design, including entity relationship diagrams, normalization, denormalization, and referential integrity.
- Hands-on expertise with Power BI and BI modeling, including semantic models, tabular models, and advanced reporting logic.
- Proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M) for data transformation and analytical model development.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and at least one cloud analytics platform such as Azure Synapse, Databricks, or a comparable solution.
- Understanding of data governance, master data concepts, and the importance of maintaining consistent business definitions.
