Minerva

Applied AI Engineer, Internal Systems

New York, NY $211k - $236k/yr Full time Posted 6d ago

Job Description

Minerva is hiring an internal Applied AI Engineer to build and run forward-deployed AI systems for company operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own the company’s knowledge agent
  • Automate processes that run the business
  • Run the skill library
  • Own the source of truth
  • Build the “plumbing” under operating dashboards, including metrics, controls, and board reporting that are currently stitched together manually from five systems
  • Put guardrails in place first
  • Sit with users to understand workflows and adoption needs
  • Measure adoption and track outcomes

Requirements

  • Have shipped agents or automations that coworkers use every week, with measurable usage outcomes (who stopped doing what, and how many hours came back)
  • Production experience with Python or TypeScript, including wiring LLMs into real APIs
  • Comfort with OAuth scopes, webhooks, and scheduled jobs, including how each fails
  • Understand how a company runs; can discuss process in the terms of a recruiter, controller, and security auditor, and fix process before automating it
  • Controls mindset: decide who approves what, and define what happens when the agent is wrong
  • Stay current on shipped AI tooling and share your setup
  • Write clearly so others follow runbooks without needing repeated questions
  • Based in New York City or willing to relocate

Technologies

  • Claude, MCP, Mastra, Temporal
  • Slack, API
  • Python, TypeScript
  • OAuth scopes, webhooks, scheduled jobs
  • Google Workspace, Notion
  • CRM, HRIS, ATS, HR, finance tools, compliance tools
  • OAuth, LLMs

Role details

  • Minerva builds agents for marketers; this seat builds them for the company’s internal teams as well
  • This is a forward-deployed internal AI operations engineer role (also described as internal AI engineer)
  • Customers include operations, finance, people, recruiting, sales, and the founders
  • You report to the COO and partner with engineering, which owns anything touching production

What you might be a fit if you are…

  • A founder or founding engineer who automated your own company back office
  • A chief of staff or business operations lead who learned to build and stopped writing specs for engineers
  • A solutions or forward deployed engineer who wants the whole company as the customer
  • A GTM or internal tools engineer who automated a sales team and wants scope beyond the sales stack
  • Or you’ve at least automated your own job before

Nice to have

  • Rolled out Claude or another model platform at company scale (access, permissions, usage, cost)
  • Experience with SOC 2 or similar audits that produced evidence
  • Hands-on time with startup systems: HRIS, ATS, CRM, billing, and spend tools

What this is not

  • Not an IT helpdesk (you’ll automate tickets away instead of answering them)
  • Not product engineering (customer-facing agents and production infrastructure belong to engineering)
  • Not an AI strategy role (you ship systems people use)
  • Not the owner of the work you automate (compliance lead owns security answers; sales ops owns the CRM)

Success measures

  • First 90 days: knowledge agent live in Slack and used daily; new-hire setup across tools in under an hour; access record writes itself; at least three workflows run without a person in the loop and remain in use after four weeks
  • First 6 months: security questionnaires go out same day without a founder writing them; contract renewals, notice windows, and price increases surface before they cost the company money; every team has a system it would fight to keep
  • Ongoing metric: hours of manual work retired each month against a baseline set in the first month

Compensation & benefits

  • $211,000–$236,000 base salary (depending on experience)
  • Meaningful equity (every full-time role includes equity)
  • Medical, dental and vision
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Monthly fitness stipend
  • Annual company offsite

Location

  • New York, NY (onsite)
  • In person from the office at 300 Kent Avenue, Williamsburg, Brooklyn

How to apply

  • Skip the cover letter
  • Include one thing you built that other people used (demo, repo, or a few paragraphs covering what the process looked like before, what you built, how many people used it, and what broke)
  • Applications without the above will not be reviewed

Work authorization: You’ll need authorization to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is considered case by case; include it on the application if needed.

Recruitment fraud notice: Hiring runs through Ashby and @minerva.io email addresses. Minerva will never ask for money, bank details, or other financial information during the process. Forward suspicious messages that appear to be from Minerva to [email protected].

Accommodations: If you need an accommodation at any point in the process, email [email protected].
