  • Partner with clients to translate business and data requirements into practical AWS data solutions.
  • Own significant data engineering workstreams, guide delivery teams, and remain actively involved in architecture, design, and technical decision-making.
  • Convert ambiguous requirements into implementable data architectures, backlogs, and delivery plans.
  • Improve engineering quality and consistency using reusable standards, patterns, and accelerators.
  • Develop team capability through coaching, technical reviews, and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead architecture and delivery outcomes for multiple significant AWS data engineering engagements.
  • Help create well-scoped follow-on work that addresses client data needs and supports measurable outcomes.
  • Build trusted client relationships, mentor Consultants and Senior Consultants, and contribute to proposals to expand Protiviti’s AWS data engineering capabilities.

Key technical focus

  • Data ingestion from diverse formats including parquet, Excel, CSV, EDI, email attachments, and PDF.
  • ETL pipeline design using AWS Glue, Lambda, or Step Functions.
  • SQL and data modeling, including knowledge base creation from JDE extracts, contract records, and spend data.
  • Data quality profiling and validation, including a Phase 0 scorecard deliverable.
  • Comfort working with messy procurement data structures such as PO lines, item master, vendor master, and contract terms (can be learned on the job).
  • Ad-hoc analysis with S3, Athena, or DuckDB, plus producing clean export files such as JDE import format and Oracle FBDI.
  • Hands-on experience with core AWS data services including S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, and Redshift.
  • Experience with large-scale or streaming technologies such as EMR, Spark or PySpark, Kinesis, or managed Kafka.
  • Apply data platform concepts spanning data warehouse or lakehouse, query optimization, and advanced SQL.
  • Use Python (or comparable data engineering language) for engineering tasks.
  • Support data governance and controls including data quality, observability, reconciliation, metadata, cataloging, lineage, and governance.
  • Apply AWS security concepts for data platforms including IAM, encryption, network access, secrets management, and least-privilege design.
  • Use modern delivery practices including source control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and production deployment.

What you bring

  • 5+ years working in professional services or industry.
  • Strong enterprise AWS data engineering experience designing and implementing data platforms and pipelines.
  • Required certification: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
  • Preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional and AWS Certified Security – Specialty.
  • Advanced skills in data modeling and query optimization, plus experience with data warehouse or lakehouse concepts.
  • Ability to lead complex engagements with multiple data sources, workstreams, or engineering teams.
  • Ability to estimate, plan, and structure engagements while managing technical risks and dependencies.
  • Strong consulting skills including client advisory, facilitation, executive communication, and stakeholder management (consulting/professional services/systems integration is highly preferred).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., MIS, IS, Comp Sci.).
