Business Systems Data Analyst / Power BI & Fabric Developer
Job Description
Immediate opening for a Business Systems Data Analyst / Power BI & Fabric Developer in Richardson, TX (onsite) to design polished Power BI dashboards and work hands-on with SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, semantic models, and curated reporting datasets.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize high-quality Power BI dashboards, covering layout, usability, DAX calculations, data relationships, semantic models, and performance tuning
- Analyze existing SQL Server VP/DataMart datasets, Microsoft Fabric data assets, semantic models, and current reporting logic
- Create and maintain curated reporting datasets and semantic models in Microsoft Fabric to enable scalable, governed analytics
- Convert complex ERP, accounting, project, HR, and operational data into clean, reliable analytics-ready structures
- Improve and expand ETL processes in SQL Server and Microsoft Fabric in collaboration with internal teams and consultants
- Trace data lineage from source systems through SQL Server, Fabric, semantic models, and Power BI reports to validate accuracy and support explainability
- Validate dashboards and datasets against source systems, legacy reports, accounting outputs, and other trusted sources
- Collaborate with internal clients to translate business needs into technical requirements, identify data sources, and deliver vetted dashboards and datasets
- Document dataset definitions, business rules, data lineage, assumptions, and known limitations
- Support front-office, production/operations, and management reporting within a cross-trained Business Systems team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analysis, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field; equivalent experience may substitute for a degree
- 2 to 3 years in a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or related analytical role
- Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server, including writing, debugging, and optimizing complex T-SQL queries, views, and stored procedures
- Advanced Power BI capabilities, including DAX, data modeling, semantic models, report design, performance tuning, and row/column-level security
- Strong understanding of data modeling concepts such as fact/dimension design, grain, star and snowflake schemas, relationships, and reporting performance
- Ability to research unfamiliar business data, understand source-system context, and convert complex operational data into trusted reporting structures
- Experience validating data and dashboards against other reporting sources for accuracy and consistency
- Ability to collaborate with business leaders, accounting/finance, operations, and technical teams to deliver practical data solutions
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platform concepts, including curated datasets, pipelines, lakehouse/warehouse patterns, or medallion architecture
- Experience managing small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity
- Curiosity, persistence, and ability to quickly learn new business systems, tools, terminology, and processes
