Job Description
Data Engineer position at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, based in Darien, IL with hybrid work options.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and sustain scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data into a centralized data warehouse.
- Ingest data from APIs and SaaS platforms, building automated ingestion workflows with controls for authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and incremental loads.
- Implement and tune ELT processes in SQL Server to maximize performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Create and maintain data models using star and snowflake schemas to support reporting and analytics.
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into practical data solutions.
- Establish data quality by implementing automated validation checks and resolving pipeline issues.
- Document data systems and processes, support governance standards, enable BI integration (Power BI), and promote self-service analytics.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 3 years of data engineering or ELT experience.
- Proficiency with SQL Server for ELT and data transformation, plus experience with BI tools like Power BI and data warehousing best practices.
- Advanced knowledge of data modeling (star and snowflake schemas) and data architectures, including data lakes and lakehouse environments.
- Ability to design, optimize, and scale data pipelines for performance and reliability.
- Proficiency in Python or similar for data manipulation and automation, with familiarity with API standards such as REST and OAuth for secure integration.
- Experience implementing automated data pipeline testing, including validation, quality checks, and regression testing.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and business stakeholders.
