Job Description

The Data Engineer role at Information Technology Senior Management Forum is an onsite position in Spring, TX focused on data collection, quality, governance, and supporting machine learning models. The role leads data engineering efforts to design, build, and maintain secure, scalable data solutions while fostering cross-team collaboration and mentoring staff to enhance data-driven decision making.

Summary

The Data Engineer is responsible for data collection, data quality, governance, and enabling machine learning initiatives, while steering data engineering efforts to create and sustain secure, scalable data platforms. The role emphasises cross-functional collaboration and professional development to strengthen data‑driven decision making across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Guides one or more project teams of data engineers through all design and development phases for complex, secure, high‑performing data solutions and models, covering design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration of structured and unstructured data.
  • Evaluates designs and project activities for adherence to architecture, security, and quality standards, delivering actionable feedback to improve product quality and reduce failure risk.
  • Provides domain expertise and overall leadership for data systems across cross‑organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Champions innovation and the adoption of new technologies within big data projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with project teams to communicate progress and resolve issues effectively.
  • Represent the data engineering team across phases of larger and more complex development efforts.
  • Supports coaching and training of business analytics solution users to enhance decision-making capabilities.
  • Maintains data integrity by monitoring data changes and executing mass updates as needed.
  • Builds and sustains relationships across the organization to support data initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Statistics/Mathematics, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience or demonstrated competence.
  • Typically 7 to 10 years of work experience, preferably in data analytics, data engineering, data modeling, or a related field.
  • Certification in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or similar.
  • Experience applying Agile methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
  • Knowledge of Apache Hadoop, Apache Kafka, and Apache Spark.
  • Familiarity with big data concepts and data analysis, data engineering, data modeling, data pipelines, and data warehousing.
  • Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and Java, Python, or Scala programming.
  • Exposure to machine learning concepts and practical implementation.
  • Strong communication skills, results orientation, learning agility, digital fluency, and customer centricity.
