Job Description

Based in Sacramento and on site, this Data Engineer III role sits within Deloitte's AI & Engineering team, concentrating on Teradata database administration, performance optimization, and close collaboration across data operations and analytics initiatives. The position blends hands-on management of Teradata environments with cross-functional communication to keep systems reliable and analytics-ready. The compensation range for this role is USD 97,900 to 163,100 per year, and it requires a bachelor’s degree along with substantial Teradata DBA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Teradata environments end to end, covering servers, databases, partitions, tables, indexes, and storage structures to ensure reliability and uptime.
  • Tune SQL queries and optimize performance to enhance overall database efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Oversee Teradata utilities such as BTEQ, load utilities, and workload management tools to support data processing tasks.
  • Monitor system health, plan maintenance, and proactively apply upgrades, patches, and performance improvements.
  • Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to report on Teradata health, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
  • 8+ years of experience as a Teradata DBA with strong database administration and system management capabilities.
  • 2+ years of experience with Teradata utilities (BTEQ, load management, query execution management) and user/database administration.
  • 2+ years of SQL experience with proven performance tuning and query optimization skills.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 5-20% based on client needs and project requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and also collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work products.
  • Capacity to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to lead projects or workstreams and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
