Job Description

Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) is hiring a Data Engineer to support Federal Law Enforcement customers in the Burlington, VT area. The role focuses on collecting, integrating, resolving, analyzing, modeling, and explaining large data to help enable complex investigations, with on-site work and security clearance requirements.

Role Overview

In this position, you will support Federal Law Enforcement missions by working with sensitive, confidential, or regulated data and translating customer problem statements into project plans and actionable results. Work will be performed on-site at US Government offices in the Burlington, VT area and includes representing TRSS in direct customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, integrate, resolve, analyze, model, and explain large data in support of complex investigations for Federal Law Enforcement agencies.
  • Support a range of Federal Law Enforcement missions, including Immigration Enforcement, Emerging Threat Detection, Money Laundering, Fraud, Force Protection, Human Rights Crimes, Transnational Crime, and more.
  • Contribute to internal innovation outside of contract work, including participating in research and development (R&D), developing and maintaining shared capabilities, strengthening technical skills, and supporting business development activities such as proof-of-concept projects and capabilities briefings.
  • Interpret customer requests and/or problem statements into clear project plans, define project goals and methods, and deliver results within required timeframes.
  • Interface directly with customers at all levels and act as a representative of TRSS.
  • Handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship (essential to comply with government contract requirements).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance or agency work suitability determination, as required by assignment.
  • Full-time willingness to work on-site, embedded at US Government offices in the Burlington, VT area.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience, including proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, R, etc.), with experience creating programs for ETL, data pipelines, and entity resolution.
  • Proficiency in multiple variants of SQL, including complex queries, table and view creation, and database performance tuning.
  • Experience managing enterprise databases and warehouses, particularly Databricks, MS SQL Server, and Snowflake.
  • Experience performing data modeling across disparate data sources with a variety of formats and structures.
  • Experience with Cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Snowflake, etc.).
  • Experience with formal SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) procedures.
  • Experience with version control software and methodology, preferably GitHub.
  • Current/Active government work suitability or security clearance.
  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies.
  • Programming skills in multiple languages other than Python (Python is a minimum requirement), including R, Java, or SQL.
  • Experience with software development, including collaborative codebases, version control, linting/testing, containerization, and interacting with REST APIs.
  • Ability to interface directly with customers at all levels and handle sensitive, confidential, or regulated data in accordance with applicable policies and requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Compensation

For eligible US locations, the base compensation range for this role is $82,000 USD - $152,200 USD per year. Base pay is positioned within the range based on factors including knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.

Location and Work Model

Burlington, VT (onsite). Full-time on-site work is required, embedded at US Government offices in the Burlington, VT area.
