Data Engineer, Business Strategy & Analytics
Job Description
Join the Nashville Predators onsite in Nashville, TN as a Data Engineer within the Business Strategy and Analytics function. This role emphasizes building and maintaining data pipelines, ETL and ELT processes, and analytics to inform decisions across NHL, Arena, and Sabertooth Sports & Entertainment. You will collaborate across teams to enable reliable reporting, data integrity, and actionable insights in a culture that prioritizes data-driven decision making and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Help shape the database architecture and design strategy that supports the business strategy and analytics teams.
- Improve the performance of reporting and analytics datasets through normalization, indexing, and query optimization to enable broader resource capabilities.
- Build and oversee ETL/ELT pipelines, data migrations, and validation workflows, including data flows delivered via APIs, RSS feeds, webhooks, SFTP, and SaaS apps.
- Create modeled data sets for automated reporting across ticketing, partnerships, digital marketing, and customer journey mapping.
- Work with identity resolution and golden record system creation and management.
- Collaborate with CRM and Analytics teams to translate data needs into dependable solutions.
- Expand the analytics team’s scope and impact within the Business Strategy and Analytics department.
- Apply techniques to identify, extract, and analyze data to inform business decisions.
- Use analytical approaches to convert complex data into actionable insights.
- Document data processes, schemas, and workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a record of professional and personal achievement; preferred concentrations include computer science, information systems, business analytics, or statistics.
- 0-1 year of professional experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, relational database design/management, and data operations.
- Expert-level SQL skills (PostgreSQL preferred).
- Familiarity with Amazon Redshift and related AWS services (S3, RDS, IAM, Glue, DMS) is a plus.
- Proficiency in R, Python, JavaScript, or other open source tools for building and managing data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of dimensional data modeling and hands-on experience with star schemas, including facts, dimensions, and slowly changing dimensions.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Understanding of ticket operations (Ticketmaster/TM1/Archtics) is a plus.
- Understanding CRM systems data is a plus.
- Ability to identify problems, their sources, and potential solutions while keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong critical thinking and attention to detail.
- Experience in the sports and entertainment industry is a strong plus.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills.
