Data Engineer, Data Engineering and Analytics

The Data Engineer on TikTok's Data Platform USDS team designs, builds, and maintains reliable, scalable batch and streaming data pipelines to support core products and data-driven decision making. This onsite role is based in San Jose, CA, and requires close collaboration with engineers, product managers, and data scientists.

Overview

As part of the Data Platform USDS group, you will design and maintain data infrastructure that enables data access, accuracy, and timely insights across the organization. The role emphasizes robust engineering practices and scalable solutions to support business needs and product development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain dependable, scalable big data systems that underpin core products and business operations.
• Build and maintain data pipelines using efficient ETL patterns and frameworks, sourcing from both structured and unstructured data to ensure accessible data for teams across the organization.
• Ingest data from APIs, Hive tables, and other sources to process and store large data volumes with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and security.
• Establish and monitor quality control measures to guarantee data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Document data assets with data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and system documentation to enable efficient data management and analysis.
• Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems to streamline the development of data artifacts.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data requirements and present meaningful data insights to stakeholders.
• Analyze and visualize data to deliver actionable insights to business stakeholders.
• Define design and engineering best practices for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years of experience in data analytics and data engineering, including data cleaning and preprocessing, data ingestion and ETL, data analysis, and dashboard development.
• 1+ years of experience building dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or similar visualization tools.

Compensation and Employment Details

Base salary: USD 136,800 - 359,720 per year. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, and location. Base pay is part of the Total Package, which may include discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.
