Job Description
ASCOT GROUP is seeking a Data Engineer to join its Data Integration & Delivery Team. Based in Iselin, NJ with a hybrid work schedule, this role focuses on analysis, development, testing, and ongoing support for data warehouse initiatives, notably Phinsys and the Data & Integration Hub. The position offers a salary range of USD 95,000 to 110,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
Position Overview
As part of the Data Integration & Delivery Team, the Data Engineer will analyze, develop, implement, test, and provide ongoing support for data warehouse projects, including Phinsys and the Data & Integration Hub. This role is office-based with a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities
- Act as a Data Engineer Level 1 contributor for projects, enhancements, and production support.
- Hold responsibility for analysis and support of assigned projects, including hands-on development.
- Contribute to work estimates by participating in project feasibility, scoping, and estimation based on business requirements.
- Help craft high- and low-level designs and technical specifications that are actionable.
- Validate the accuracy and quality of data integrations derived from ETL specs and ensure adherence to data model specifications.
- Support hands-on design, development, and testing for the most complex data tasks.
- Coordinate or lead production implementations to ensure smooth, high-quality releases.
- Contribute to delivering new warehouse sources, tables, marts, etc., while aligning with company standards.
- Coordinate Ascot and vendor resources to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.
- Think independently and creatively to streamline processes and remove inefficiencies.
- Identify opportunities to accelerate output and improve quality, articulating ideas and translating them into new capabilities and performance gains.
- Anticipate potential roadblocks and report them promptly.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum two years of experience as a Data Analyst/Engineer supporting a large data warehouse with sizable data sets.
- Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Experience in commercial or specialty insurance is preferred.
- Knowledge of financial data and concepts.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Proven SQL proficiency.
- Experience using SQL to identify and remediate data issues.
- Experience with databases, preferably SQL Server and Synapse.
- Scripting and SQL skills for ETL, data/file validation, analysis, and profiling.
- Ability to read and interpret data models and contribute as needed.
- Code maintenance and review experience in at least one general-purpose language.
- Understanding of insurance domain data models is preferred.
