Job Description

Role context: This is an in-person Data Scientist position supporting the Property Appraiser’s Office in Bartow, Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior-level staff to build and maintain a complex code base for production and analytical tasks
  • Integrate data from CAMA systems, GIS platforms, deeds, permits, and external sources to keep internal systems consistent
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL queries supporting modeling, appraisal, and data entry operations
  • Maintain data dictionaries, documentation, and technical specifications for office datasets
  • Develop dynamic, interactive dashboards for appraisers, management, and leadership using Power BI (or similar tools)
  • Create tools and data products that support staff understanding of parcel characteristics, value changes, and classification trends
  • Build visual tools and summary reports communicating model performance, market behavior, and data distributions
  • Manage complex interfaces with senior-level staff to deliver data science projects focused on efficiency, transparency, and fairness
  • Assist in evaluating sales data and land location factors to support the Manager and Regression Modeler
  • Support staff training on data literacy, dashboard usage, and access to analytical tools
  • Research and recommend new tools, technologies, and methods to improve analytics, visualization, automation, and reporting
  • Manage end-to-end work including data collection, cross-channel data integration, predictive analytics, reporting, dashboards, and data visualization
  • Collaborate with senior-level staff to identify opportunities to use data science to improve services
  • Identify data inconsistencies and coordinate with appraisal, GIS, and IT staff to resolve issues and improve data quality
  • Create repeatable workflows for high-volume or statutory tasks such as annual updates, abstract validation, and roll monitoring
  • Perform other duties as assigned and participate in departmental meetings, cross-training, educational courses, seminars, and organizational efforts as directed
  • May require driving to offsite training and occasional travel to agency offices and other required work locations

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and not require employer sponsorship now or in the future
  • Education: Equivalent of two years of college level classes with major coursework in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Experience: Two or more years’ knowledge of software development and maintenance through prior work experience in-house or with another county agency or Property Appraiser’s office
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Power BI and SPSS or Python
  • Each year of post-secondary education may be substituted by one (1) year of work experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • After hiring, the deputy will be required to complete:
    • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300)
    • At least one of the following cybersecurity training courses:
      • CyberReady Florida Technical Foundations from USF/Cyber Florida
      • The Cyber Florida Class: Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 (CSF 2.0) Practitioner Course

Location and Pay

  • Work location: In person, Bartow, FL
  • Salary: From $75,000.00 per year
