Job Description

Rocket Companies is looking for a Data Scientist to work onsite in Michigan. In this role, you’ll help business leaders turn complex, multi-format data into actionable insights and strategic direction by building predictive models and strengthening how models are tested, validated, and deployed.

What you’ll get to do

You will analyze and process large datasets across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured sources, then transform that information into models that improve business outcomes. Your work spans exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model development, and ongoing refinement to support accurate prediction of outcomes that matter to the organization.

  • Perform exploratory data analysis, data manipulation, and processing on large data sets
  • Develop predictive and machine learning models from structured and unstructured data
  • Use feature selection algorithms to improve models predicting target outcomes
  • Apply sampling techniques to determine groups to be surveyed
  • Evaluate and compare models with statistical performance metrics such as loss functions or proportion of explained variance
  • Create graphs, charts, and other visualizations to communicate findings
  • Deliver oral or written presentations of modeling and analysis results to stakeholders
  • Identify relationships, trends, and factors that may affect research results
  • Test, validate, and reformulate models to ensure accurate prediction
  • Write new functions or applications to run analyses
  • Partner with machine learning engineers on deployment of applicable models for business projects
  • Sequence steps to deliver working models, estimate timelines, and share updates with the project manager
  • Advise project teams on improvements that strengthen predictive and prescriptive models
  • Drive best practices for statistical or behavioral models and develop and refine data sources
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to develop and support the internal data platform used for ongoing analyses
  • Mentor and train associate data scientists

Skills and experience needed

  • 3+ years working with large data sets using Hadoop, AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • 3+ years with statistical and data mining tools and methods
  • 3+ years with supervised models (e.g., regression, neural networks) and unsupervised techniques (e.g., clustering, PCA, SVMs)
  • 3+ years with SQL
  • 3+ years with Python and at least one strongly typed language (e.g., C++, Java)
  • 3+ years with statistical packages
  • 3+ years delivering predictive and prescriptive analytics in a business setting
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced understanding of data visualization libraries
  • Advanced understanding of statistical methodologies for modeling and business analytics
