Data Scientist Senior

The Senior Data Scientist role at Elevance Health focuses on building predictive modeling solutions that address complex business needs and improve member experiences. This position combines hands-on modeling development, distributed analytics, and delivery of actionable insights with oversight of proprietary algorithm work.

Key Responsibilities

• Designs and leads predictive modeling projects to solve more complex business problems in consultation with business partners.
• Enables analysis by piping and processing large data streams within distributed computing environments such as Hadoop.
• Recommends both batch and real-time model scoring approaches to support operational decision-making.
• Provides oversight for the development of proprietary algorithms to create customized solutions beyond standard industry tools.
• Develops advanced visualizations of analytical outputs for business users.
• Publishes results and works with business partners to address constraints and limitations.
• Delivers actionable insights that support meeting established targets.
• Evaluates continuous improvement opportunities for existing predictive modeling algorithms.
• Collaborates with business partners to define population segments and develop plans to identify patterns related to quality, use, cost, and other variables.
• Mentors other data scientists.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Econometrics, Physics, Biostatistics or a related quantitative discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in predictive analytics or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides a comparable background.

Location and Hybrid Work Details

The role is based in Indianapolis, IN (hybrid). Associates are expected to be in-office 1 day per week to support collaboration and connectivity, with flexibility to help maintain productivity and work-life balance. Candidates should be able to report to the Pulse Point location in Indianapolis, IN. Alternate locations may be considered if candidates live within commuting distance from an office. Per the hybrid/virtual work policy, candidates not within a reasonable commuting distance from the posting location(s) will not be considered unless an accommodation is granted as required by law.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experience

• Consulting experience (highly preferred).
• Expert knowledge of SAS and SAS Enterprise Miner Lead, and strong programming experience with Python and R (highly preferred).
• Experience leading end-to-end data science project implementation (highly preferred).
• Experience managing a small team, through formal or informal reporting relationships (preferred).
• PhD and experience in the healthcare sector (preferred).

How We Work

Elevance Health operates under a Hybrid Workforce Strategy.
