Job Description

Roche is seeking an Expert Data Scientist in Indianapolis, IN (onsite) to help establish data science as an enterprise competency and turn data assets into measurable business value using analytics, machine learning, and AI. The role includes building analytical solutions, advising stakeholders, and delivering proof-of-concept work that supports deeper insights for Roche Diagnostics.

Role Overview

In this position, you will advance Roche’s data maturity by applying data science methods and principles to generate deeper insights from a range of internal and external data sources. You will identify needs, lead the design and implementation of analytical solutions, and provide consulting support to key business stakeholders.

You will demonstrate value by executing proof-of-concept initiatives and prototyping analytical solutions to address business questions. The role requires an enterprise mindset, connecting individual contributions to broader organizational outcomes with an emphasis on business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify high-impact data science use cases and develop and implement innovative solutions that drive business impact.
  • Develop state-of-the-art analytical capabilities aligned to identified needs.
  • Evaluate and implement solutions from concept through minimum viable product and final product.
  • Apply analytical and statistical methods in an agile manner using multiple data sources and analytical tools.
  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams to build aligned solutions and deliver impactful business insights.
  • Engage relevant stakeholders to support better decision-making.
  • Interpret and communicate analytics results clearly and concisely to audiences with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Partner with data science experts across Roche worldwide to share best-in-class solutions and collaborate on data science challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, or an equivalent field.
  • At least 5 years of commercial or industry experience in a hands-on capacity.
  • Experience with Statistics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, Cloud Computing, and Distributed Systems.
  • Hands-on programming experience with Python, R, or similar, plus strong understanding of statistical and machine learning models.
  • Experience implementing statistical learning methods or deep learning frameworks to solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in an interdisciplinary environment including (data) scientists, analysts, business stakeholders, and consultants.
  • Excellent communication skills and effective problem-solving, with a record serving diverse customers and projects.
  • Willingness to guide and inspire business stakeholders, data scientists, and colleagues in adopting data science practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience with Agile development methods, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with AWS environments.

Compensation and Location

  • Salary: USD 129,300 - 240,100 per year
