Lead Machine Learning Engineer responsible for designing and operating agent platforms and AI agents for payments technology, applying MLOps and enterprise-scale capabilities across platforms and business units. This onsite role is based in Jersey City, NJ, with a salary range of USD 164,350 to 260,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy production grade AI agents across a federated portfolio, owning solutions from prototype through launch and ongoing operational support
- Build reliable retrieval systems for production use, implementing hybrid retrieval augmented generation patterns (vector search plus graph-based retrieval where appropriate) with robust chunking, ranking, and grounding
- Implement agent memory architectures including episodic and semantic memory with recall, summarization, and decay policies aligned to use-case needs
- Construct entitlement-aware and tenant-aware context assembly so agents reason only over permitted data, enabling traceability and auditability
- Orchestrate multi-agent workflows and integrate external tools and data sources via secure connectors and standardized tool interfaces
- Develop evaluation frameworks including task-level and end-to-end tests, regression suites, automated scoring, and release gates for quality and safety
- Deploy and operate agent services on public cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, applying rigorous software development lifecycle, security, resiliency, and observability practices
- Enhance runtime performance and reliability by instrumenting tracing, monitoring, and incident-response playbooks for agent services
- Collaborate with product and business leaders to translate use cases into shipped capabilities, define success metrics, and drive continuous improvement from production feedback
