Forward Deployed AI Engineer
Job Description
Enterprise AI at Turing moves with startup speed, with a client-first mindset and a focus on building AI that performs in production. As a Forward-Deployed AI Engineer in New York City, you will own client outcomes end to end while building production-grade generative AI and agentic systems. The work is hands-on and in-person, typically three to five days per week, either at client sites or at Turing’s planned Manhattan office near Madison Square Park.
What you’ll do
- Partner with customers to handle ambiguity by uncovering high-value opportunities, challenging assumptions, and translating business needs into clear technical direction.
- Design and build production AI systems, including multi-agent workflows, orchestration and tool use, context engineering, and memory and state.
- Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and connect the full system stack: APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and distributed systems that operate reliably at scale.
- Lead work from discovery through deployment and measurable impact while staying directly involved in evaluation, observability, security, reliability, latency, scalability, and cost.
What you bring
- 8+ years building and operating sophisticated software systems, with expertise in Python, backend systems, APIs, databases, distributed systems, system design, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience delivering production LLM and agent systems, including orchestration, tool use, context engineering, memory and state, retrieval, and multistep workflows.
- A track record taking complex systems from architecture to deployment and scale, with practical grounding in evaluation, observability, reliability, security, guardrails, latency, scalability, and cost.
- Ability to enter unfamiliar environments, build trust quickly, navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions constructively, and communicate effectively with senior engineers and business executives.
- Strong ability to explain technical concepts clearly, work with stakeholders, and stay composed under pressure.
Tools and technologies
- Python, LLMs, RAG, orchestration, tool use, context engineering, memory and state, multistep workflows
- APIs, databases, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure
Location and work model
- New York City (onsite). Based in the NYC area or within a reasonable commuting distance.
- In-office collaboration is typically three to five days per week, either at the client site or at the planned Manhattan office near Madison Square Park.
Compensation
$200,000–$250,000 base salary + equity.
Turing advantages
- Work at the frontier of AI and bring enterprise-ready frontier innovation.
- Contribute to leading-edge AI research and showcase work at top conferences such as ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS.
- Collaborate with exceptional colleagues with deep AI experience from Google, Meta, Amazon, and other leading tech companies.
- Operate with the speed, ownership, and impact of a startup.
Additional notes
Enterprise AI is a distinct business unit within Turing, designed to combine startup speed and focus with full ownership for client delivery.
If you do not meet every qualification, you can apply for the Forward-Deployed AI Engineer (In Training) opportunity, which targets high-potential software engineers and full-stack developers building production engineering, applied AI, and client-delivery skills.
