IT Lead Data Engineer

BDO is seeking an IT Lead Data Engineer in the United States (onsite) to lead work that extracts, transforms, and stores the firm’s most valuable data assets. In this role, you will design data solutions, guide ingestion and extraction platform efforts, and help shape governance practices while mentoring junior data engineers.

The position includes an annual salary range of USD 138,000 to 170,000 and requires at least 3 years of relevant experience, with High School Diploma or GED as the minimum education.

What you’ll do

• Partner with stakeholders and data architects to define and design data solutions aligned to the firm’s data initiatives
• Identify where data assets reside across firm systems and design integrations that connect disparate sources to address problems and deliver business value
• Collaborate with project managers to support effort estimates and provide technical leadership for solution design and requirements
• Work with data governance to ensure principles are reflected in day-to-day data usage and in the course of solution design
• Create mock-up solution designs, visualizations, and reports to demonstrate proposed deliverables
• Serve as a subject matter expert and internal advocate for firm data platforms, including best practices related to data usage and data hygiene
• Meet regularly with business line customers to understand business processes and evolving data needs to identify potential data-related projects
• Work with data scientists and developers to apply emerging and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to uncover patterns and trends
• Build and maintain constructive working relationships with project teams, vendors, and other departments involved with projects, systems, and IT strategies
• Act as a technical lead by reviewing solution designs, conducting code reviews, and troubleshooting advanced technical issues
• Identify and execute continuous improvement efforts to keep data accurate and timely
• Coordinate with Information Security and Compliance teams to help ensure data strategy and technologies meet internal policies and external regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with BDO Global and other BDO member firms to support reusable models and rapid deployment of shared technology while following standards across organizations
• Follow project management basics and adhere to Project Management Office policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as required

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required
• 8+ years working as a data engineer, data analyst, or similar analyst/engineer role, required
• 8+ years working with PowerBI, Tableau, or similar data visualization products, required
• 5+ years working within commercial cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP, required
• 3+ years using version control tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub, required
• Demonstrable proficiency in developing and understanding custom and ad-hoc SQL queries, required
• Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, required
• Strong proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or similar tools, required
• Strong proficiency in PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, or similar, required
