Job Description

Wolverine Worldwide is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to guide the design, development, and deployment of data solutions built on Microsoft Fabric and the Azure data platform. The role includes mentoring junior engineers and taking ownership of data governance across cloud environments, delivering scalable, enterprise-grade architectures. This 100 percent remote position centers on collaboration across cross-functional teams to advance the company’s data strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for modern data engineering initiatives using Microsoft Fabric OneLake and Azure Synapse Analytics, including pipelines, notebooks, lakehouse architectures, and enterprise data warehouses.
  • Direct cross-functional teams in building data warehousing solutions from inception through blueprinting, architecture, implementation, and post-go-live hypercare support.
  • Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to capture and refine requirements.
  • Project resource needs, timelines, and budgets for multiple initiatives across diverse teams.
  • Advise on data governance, security, and privacy across cloud platforms.
  • Lead or assist in troubleshooting related to application performance, usage, and general support activities.
  • Produce system documentation, user manuals, and deliver user training sessions.
  • Own disaster recovery initiatives and enforce change management standards and procedures.
  • Define and monitor service levels to improve reliability, availability, accuracy, serviceability, and cost.
  • Support IT leadership in shaping and executing complex objectives aligned with strategic goals.
  • Assess third-party solutions under guidance; stay current with technology trends and integrate new tools.
  • Continue professional growth through self-directed education, project assignments, and vendor interactions.
  • Provide on-call support around the clock, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight or more years of proven experience designing and implementing data warehouse architectures, data delivery, data modeling, ETL tools, master data management, and delivering highly automated, well-documented solutions.
  • Eight or more years of experience with Microsoft cloud data platform solutions: Fabric OneLake, Azure Synapse, DevOps, Data Factory, pipelines and notebooks.
  • Experience with monitoring and optimization tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Fabric capacity metrics, or equivalents.
  • Medallion Architecture modeling experience.
  • Python programming and data processing (dataframes, Spark, etc.).
  • SQL development and performance optimization.
  • Power BI experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to mentor other team members in cloud technologies.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in cloud data platforms is implied by the role requirements.

Location

Remote (100% remote). Preference for Michigan-based candidates.

Salary

USD 120,000 - 157,500 per year
