Lead Data Scientist

Motion Recruitment is hiring for a contract Lead Data Scientist position in Raleigh, NC, with a hybrid schedule that includes two days onsite each week. In this role, you will help shape and deliver advanced AI capabilities for platforms focused on legal and regulatory intelligence.

You will lead the design and deployment of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic AI systems, with an emphasis on building solutions that can support real enterprise workflows for legal professionals.

Role focus

Work centers on engineering and operationalizing AI systems for legal research and document-centric tasks. The aim is to enable capabilities such as case law summarization, statutory interpretation, document intelligence, and workflow automation through enterprise-scale machine learning and LLM architectures.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and deployment of advanced RAG systems and Agentic AI architectures tailored for legal and regulatory intelligence platforms
• Drive innovation in enterprise-scale AI systems that support legal research, case law summarization, statutory interpretation, document intelligence, and workflow automation for legal professionals

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required
• 8+ years of experience
• Deep expertise in machine learning, NLP, LLM systems engineering, and distributed AI architectures
