Machine Learning Engineer

Hybrid in Salt Lake City, UT, Extra Space Management, Inc is building analytics and AI systems that support real business outcomes. This role focuses on taking advanced analytics from prototypes to production, while keeping the underlying environments reliable through ongoing maintenance. You will work on scalable data science applications, including generative AI features such as prompt and model optimization.

What you’ll do

• Build and deploy scalable analytical systems and support production environments for ongoing maintenance.
• Turn data science proof-of-concept models into production-ready applications by following industry standard software development practices.
• Develop data science applications for text-based search and audio and video recordings.
• Evaluate algorithmic improvements using statistical modeling and A/B testing approaches.
• Execute on the technical roadmap for data science products and contribute to continuous improvement across releases.
• Perform systems analysis, interpret results, and communicate findings to business stakeholders to improve products such as revenue management and paid search bidding.
• Document assigned work, including business objectives, data gathering and processing, approaches, final algorithms, detailed results, and analytical metrics.
• Develop and optimize prompts for large language models (LLMs), evaluate and fine-tune AI models for specific business applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and test data science and AI applications.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, or other engineering.
• 3+ years of experience deploying advanced analytics solutions that drive business outcomes.

Work environment

This position is sedentary work in an office setting. Requirements include limited lifting (less than 10 pounds) or walking as needed, close visual acuity for computer work, and repetitive typing motions. The role also involves talking, hearing, grasping, and feeling, with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
