Machine Learning Engineer - Multimodal
Job Description
Hadrian Automation is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the machine learning lifecycle for vision-language models. The work connects perception and reasoning to support understanding of manufacturing drawings and design intent within the DFM manufacturing data intelligence layer.
Role Overview
The position focuses on research, development, deployment, and evaluation of multimodal systems that move beyond traditional OCR-to-NLP pipelines. The goal is to unify how the model interprets manufacturing documentation end-to-end and to quantify real-world impact beyond standard benchmark scores.
Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and deploy multimodal models that interpret manufacturing documentation end-to-end, replacing traditional OCR-to-NLP cascades with unified architectures
- Partner with the core-engineering team to build and maintain annotation tooling, implement active learning loops, and engineer synthetic data augmentation strategies
- Create evaluation frameworks that measure system behavior and user impact, extending beyond traditional benchmark metrics
- Collaborate with other members of the machine learning team to define technical and product roadmaps for the AI platform
- Reduce the long tail of performance issues, acknowledging that each accuracy improvement corresponds to man-years of time savings at Hadrian’s scale
Requirements
- 5 to 8 years of professional deep learning experience, including at least 2 years working on multimodal models using image and text modalities
- Strong Python and PyTorch skills, including experience implementing custom training loops, loss functions, and data loaders from scratch when needed
- Production deployment ownership, including shipping models to production and taking responsibility for endpoint and model health
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience valued equally
Technologies
- Python
- PyTorch
Compensation and Location
- Location: Torrance, CA (onsite)
- Compensation: USD 160,000 - 250,000 per year
- Minimum experience: 5 years
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
- 401k
- Relocation support may be provided for certain situations, based on business need
- Flexible vacation policy
- Equity
Bonus Points
- Interest in manufacturing and belief that the industry needs better software
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing, including work involving manufacturing data
- Published research, state-of-the-art results on relevant benchmarks, or contributions to open-source frameworks
- Prior experience working in a high-ownership startup environment
ITAR Requirements
To comply with U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), applicants must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
