Job Description

The Meter Data Management (MDM) Data Analyst supports reliable meter-to-cash operations by monitoring and analyzing MDM system data, ensuring accurate synchronization across connected platforms, and resolving billing-relevant exceptions that impact network performance and customer outcomes.

Onsite Location and Schedule

  • Location: Tampa, FL (onsite)
  • Position details: Midtown East Tower
  • State and city: Florida - Tampa
  • Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily data synchronization and trend analysis: Monitor daily synchronization between CRM, AMI head-end, and MDM to ensure accurate data alignment across systems. Troubleshoot data anomalies and track trends to uncover potential data issues and log defects. Analyze data imported into MDM from other business units (e.g., Smart Street Lights). (20%)
  • Exception validation and estimation support: Analyze and resolve validation and estimation exceptions by interpreting reports and identifying errors. Coordinate with internal departments and third-party vendors to analyze, troubleshoot, and address exceptions. Proactively resolve billing exceptions where possible. Serve as an escalation point for other business units (e.g., analyze data to troubleshoot high bill complaints). (20%)
  • Network performance monitoring: Review key network performance metrics daily, including the percentage of register and interval readings. Identify and track trends and address issues to support optimal network health and performance. Provide status reporting on network performance, data collection issues, synchronization, and exception handling. Analyze network performance to determine whether infrastructure issues should be communicated to the AMI vendor. (15%)
  • Investigate data collection issues: Monitor and investigate data collection issues such as stale meters. Troubleshoot to determine root cause, including mapping to confirm whether a stale meter issue is related to the AMI network or a prior stale location. Track trends and monitor for “soft failures” (e.g., spikes, maximum demand) to identify abnormal consumption patterns or problematic meters. Generate service orders for required work.
  • Support CRM software/process changes and testing: Coordinate with other departments to support implementation and testing of required CRM software/process changes affecting Billing, Metering, and Customer Service that may impact MDM. Review vendor test notes to identify changes and anticipated impacts. Develop test cases and scripts for new patches and versions of MDM software, ensuring existing functionality is not negatively affected. Execute tests and analyze results to confirm changes do not adversely impact billing functions. (1
  • Process documentation and preventative improvements: Develop and maintain processes and procedure documentation. Identify and recommend strategies and procedures to eliminate avoidable problems through preventative measures. Coordinate processes such as meter changes and new services to ensure meter data is managed properly and billing impacts are minimized. (10%)
  • TEC support: MDM reporting and rules engine: For TEC, develop requirements for, configure, and test MDM reports and applicable rules engine. Identify and analyze methods to increase productivity through rules configuration and automation. Recommend new processes to optimize operational business functions enabled by AMI and MDM data (e.g., transformer loading). Support other business units with custom report development through a thorough understanding of data fields. (10%)
  • OR support: gas meter corrections and device operations: For PGS, complete day-to-day support tasks including manual corrections related to Gas Meter and Gas ERT installations, removals, and reversals; Gas Device grouping and ungrouping; manual meter disconnects and reconnections; gas rate updates; service notification corrections; re-processing and reporting; and meter reading and routing, including CRB MRU changes. (10%)

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret data and analyze results

  • Ability to take initiative to create new methods and solutions to achieve end results
  • Ability to interact and coordinate with other departments to ensure timely transfer and receipt of meter data
  • Excellent interpersonal, administrative, organizational, communication, analytical, and time management skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of customer service and billing functions acquired through utility billing and customer service experience
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: 4 years of relevant experience with metering and billing functions

Storm Duty and Employment Expectations

  • Team members are required to participate in response and recovery activities related to emergencies or disasters to maintain service to Tampa Electric customers.
  • Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities.
  • Responding to storms is considered a condition of employment.

Supervision and Stakeholder Relationships

  • Internal: Billing, Energy Accounting, Forecasting, Meter Reading, Gas and/or Meter Operations, Regulatory.
  • External: Vendors and customers.

Work Conditions
