Job Description

Navy Federal Credit Union is seeking an Oracle Database Administrator (Data Engineer) to research, design, implement, and maintain Oracle database solutions. This onsite role in Vienna, VA includes production support coverage through a rotating 24/7 on-call DBA rotation, along with responsibilities across high availability, disaster recovery, security, automation, monitoring, and IT service management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer Oracle Real Applications Clusters (RAC) running on IBM AIX (install, setup, configuration, performance tuning, and operational support for high availability).
  • Support enterprise Oracle databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), including provisioning, migration, optimization, and ongoing support.
  • Implement security controls for client-to-database and server communication using TLS 1.2 network encryption.
  • Perform quarterly Critical Patch Updates (CPU) across database environments using Oracle Fleet Maintenance and OEM automation.
  • Build, maintain, and test Oracle Data Guard physical standby configurations to support high availability, zero data loss, and swift failovers.
  • Automate routine database management tasks (provisioning, backup monitoring, health checks) using Ansible and Shell scripting.
  • Use OEM for proactive monitoring, diagnostics, and performance management.
  • Manage incidents and change tickets in ServiceNow, performing root cause analysis and responding promptly to 24/7 on-call notifications for major incident bridges or critical database system alerts.
  • Apply engineering principles to the design and enhancement of new and existing systems, and document newly built components or modifications.
  • Ensure solutions meet Navy Federal, industry engineering, and Information Security principles and practices.
  • Conduct engineering tasks including technology research, procurement, deployment, and configuration for new or modified systems.
  • Provide technical leadership in architecture discipline and information technology solution development.
  • Present clear, organized, and concise information to multiple audiences through a variety of media to support business decisions.
  • Perform installation, upgrade, and migration of Oracle RAC databases.
  • Deliver performance tuning for production Oracle databases.
  • Design and implement high availability solutions using Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard.
  • Maintain security compliance by applying Oracle quarterly security patch releases to databases.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call DBA rotation supporting the Oracle DB Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of Oracle Database Administrator experience with a proven track record administering Oracle RAC on the AIX platform.
  • Hands-on experience creating and supporting database deployments in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or similar.
  • Experience implementing and supporting Oracle Multi-tenant Architecture databases.
  • Advanced automation scripting experience.
  • Significant experience with Oracle EM and Oracle Fleet Maintenance.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering discipline, organizational planning, and time management.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment to make sound decisions.
  • Database and presentation software skills; strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills; word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Addresses: 820 Follin Lane, Vienna, VA 22180; 141 Security Drive Winchester, VA 22602
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM (rotating on-call schedule required)

  • Compensation: Salary range is USD 78,400 - 123,200 per year, paid within the range based on experience, location, and market position.
