Senior Analytics Engineer
Job Description
Remedy is hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer to join its centralized data team and take ownership of a functional data area end-to-end, from raw sources through to the metrics used to drive decision-making. The role focuses on building dbt models and the semantic layer, partnering with business teams, and ensuring metrics are trustworthy and well governed.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a functional data area and serve as the lead analyst for a domain such as finance or growth and retention, acting as the first point of contact for answers and insight; own models, metrics, analysis, and the roadmap.
- Architect core data models by designing and maintaining silver and gold layer models in dbt using Kimball dimensional modeling (facts and dimensions).
- Define and operationalize metrics by translating company-wide metrics into governed, consistent definitions (examples include retention, funnel conversion, LTV/CAC/ROAS, and revenue).
- Steward the semantic layer by treating BI tooling (Hex) as a product and maintaining semantic layer health, cross-team modeling standards, and self-serve data products.
- Make the numbers trustworthy by setting standards for testing, documentation, and freshness; lead root-cause analysis on data discrepancies, then remediate underlying architecture to prevent recurrence.
- Partner with business teams (Marketing, Growth, Finance, and Product) to convert ambiguous questions into clear requirements and scalable solutions.
- Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and results to audiences ranging from engineers to senior leadership, including setting and managing expectations.
- Improve upstream data in collaboration with product and engineering by working on event taxonomy and instrumentation quality and consistency across app, web, and backend.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in analytics, analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related role.
- Deep SQL experience in a cloud data warehouse, ideally Snowflake, to validate data quality, investigate anomalies, and support analysis.
- Production experience with dbt, including modeling, testing, documentation, and project structure.
- Strong data modeling skills, including Kimball dimensional modeling (star schemas and slowly changing dimensions) and layered medallion architectures.
- Business and analytical judgment to determine which questions matter and how to answer them, not only how to model.
- A record of leading cross-team data initiatives, including gathering requirements from both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Clear, confident communication with senior leadership, including the ability to push back and reset expectations when needed.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a fast pace; ability to prioritize and ship without waiting for perfect specifications.
- High initiative and follow-through, with a bias for action.
