Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Wintrust Financial Corporation is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and continuously improve complex data systems and pipelines. This hybrid role supports the data enablement lifecycle by strengthening transformation workflows, governance practices, and enterprise-ready analytics foundations.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and continuously improve complex data systems.
- Build processes that support data transformations, data structures, metadata, dependency management, and workload management.
- Ensure adherence to data governance policies by implementing and validating data lineage, data quality checks, and classification.
- Support, enhance, and create Daily/Monthly ETL/ELT processes to ensure business continuity, meeting best-in-class standards with high performance.
- Create enterprise datasets that support analytics needs for data scientists and analytics teams.
- Develop Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models for data solutions.
- Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement, including automating manual work and optimizing data delivery.
- Analyze requirements and produce technical specifications and detailed level design documents.
- Serve as a resource for escalated issues, and analyze/design specifications for less experienced team members.
- Design and implement best-in-class data processing solutions across data modeling, loading, delivery, availability, performance, and security.
- Engage across the data enablement lifecycle and mentor less experienced team members as needed.
- Design and build complete data pipelines that move and transform data for ODS, Staging, Data Warehousing, Data Marts, MDM, including middleware integrations.
- Process semi-structured and unstructured files using traditional SQL and modern object-oriented scripting languages such as Python.
- Build CI/CD pipelines for data pipelines using Azure DevOps.
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, Math, or a related field plus 5 years of experience in a related occupation (or Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years as an alternative).
- 5 years of data engineering experience designing, implementing data persistence, data processing, and data integration.
- 5 years designing and building complete data pipelines for ODS, Staging, Data Warehousing, and Data Marts.
- 5 years processing semi-structured and unstructured files using Microsoft SSIS and SQL.
- 3 years with medium-scale data and query optimization techniques.
- Experience with data warehouse concepts, including 3NF and the Dimensional data model.
- Experience implementing and validating data lineage, quality checks, and classification.
- Experience creating, enhancing, and supporting ETL/ELT processes for business continuity, best-in-class standards, and high performance.
- Experience analyzing requirements and preparing technical specifications and detailed level design documents.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines for data pipelines using Azure DevOps.

Compensation
USD 160,555 per year.
