Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Headway is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help shape the company’s data architecture for a mental healthcare platform. The role focuses on building scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines, strengthening governance and quality standards, and enabling trustworthy, AI-ready data through cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and supporting infrastructure for internal stakeholders and core business functions.
- Define, develop, and refine data governance, monitoring, and data quality standards, including ensuring AI-generated or AI-surfaced data is complete, correct, and traceable.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to advocate for data engineering best practices and address data needs early in the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with Analytics, Data Science, and Infrastructure to continuously evolve Headway’s data architecture.
- Own and drive technical decisions across the data platform, including performance optimization and infrastructure-as-code.
- Support how employees interact with data through AI-powered tools by helping ensure the data layer is reliable enough to power accurate, trustworthy answers.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a data engineer, with a track record of building scalable systems and solving complex data challenges in a fast-paced technology environment.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience with tools and services from a modern data platform stack, including Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, and Terraform.
- Familiarity with visualization tools such as Metabase or Jupyter Notebooks (plus).
- Pragmatic approach to building for current needs while planning for future scale.
- Strong ownership and action orientation, including when requirements are ambiguous.
- Collaborative mindset and empathy for teammates and stakeholders across disciplines.

Compensation
The expected base pay range for this position is $180,000 - $225,000. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an equity grant, depending on the position and level. Offers Equity.
