Headway is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help shape the company’s data architecture for a mental healthcare platform. The role focuses on building scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines, strengthening governance and quality standards, and enabling trustworthy, AI-ready data through cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and supporting infrastructure for internal stakeholders and core business functions.
Define, develop, and refine data governance, monitoring, and data quality standards, including ensuring AI-generated or AI-surfaced data is complete, correct, and traceable.
Partner with Product and Engineering to advocate for data engineering best practices and address data needs early in the product lifecycle.
Collaborate with Analytics, Data Science, and Infrastructure to continuously evolve Headway’s data architecture.
Own and drive technical decisions across the data platform, including performance optimization and infrastructure-as-code.
Support how employees interact with data through AI-powered tools by helping ensure the data layer is reliable enough to power accurate, trustworthy answers.

Requirements

6+ years of experience as a data engineer, with a track record of building scalable systems and solving complex data challenges in a fast-paced technology environment.
Proficiency in Python and SQL.
Experience with tools and services from a modern data platform stack, including Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, and Terraform.
Familiarity with visualization tools such as Metabase or Jupyter Notebooks (plus).
Pragmatic approach to building for current needs while planning for future scale.
Strong ownership and action orientation, including when requirements are ambiguous.
Collaborative mindset and empathy for teammates and stakeholders across disciplines.

Compensation

The expected base pay range for this position is $180,000 - $225,000. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for an equity grant, depending on the position and level. Offers Equity.
