Senior Data Scientist
Job Description
The Senior Data Scientist role at Sony Interactive Entertainment focuses on Product Usage and Value Lens in partnership with Finance. You will build advanced models to quantify player value, incremental impact, and long-term platform value to inform strategy and investment decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver sophisticated models to quantify player value, incremental impact, and long-run platform value, applying causal inference, forecasting, optimization, and machine learning where appropriate.
- Evaluate the incremental effects of launches, investments, and external market events, isolating the true impact from counterfactuals and translating insights into actionable value drivers.
- Construct optimization and scenario analyses to support long-range planning under real-world constraints.
- Tackle ambiguous problem spaces by breaking down complex business challenges into tractable, measurable solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Strategy, and Platform teams to ensure value-driving products are robust, trusted, and adopted, and to help stakeholders recognize and attribute impact.
- Assess and select modelling approaches based on context, balancing rigour, performance, scalability, interpretability, and business impact.
- Mentor other data scientists and contribute to team-wide best practices and standards.
- Communicate modelling approaches, assumptions, and outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including Finance leadership.
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering analytical and modelling solutions that inform decision making in areas such as customer value, incrementality, forecasting, or investment decisioning.
- Background in optimization or operations research methods (for example resource allocation, scheduling, or constrained planning), or a strong quantitative foundation to acquire these techniques quickly.
- Strong grounding in causal inference and impact measurement, with the ability to critically evaluate assumptions and recognize when correlation is insufficient.
- Experience leading projects end-to-end from problem definition to delivery and business adoption.
- Ability to work with large, complex datasets and translate findings into scalable, trustworthy solutions.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with a track record of influencing commercial or finance partners and presenting results to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, comfort with the modern analytics and ML tooling ecosystem, and experience with PySpark or equivalent distributed processing tools.
- Strong quantitative background, typically a Master’s or PhD in operations research, machine learning, statistics, economics, or a related field.
