Senior Data Scientist

Motion Recruitment is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for a hybrid role based in Providence, RI. This contract position is focused on building the full analytical systems behind AI applied to legal and regulatory intelligence products, including LLM-powered research experiences, agentic automation, semantic retrieval, and document intelligence. You will collaborate across data, software, architecture, and product to help shape next-generation AI-enabled research tools for complex, high-value professional use cases.

Responsibilities

• Own and advance the data science strategy for new capabilities across research, document intelligence, and workflow automation features
• Design and implement methods for chunking, indexing, retrieving, and ranking long-form professional content
• Build, test, and evaluate LLM-based approaches for summarization, question answering, and interpretation
• Prototype agentic systems that can complete multi-stage research and analysis tasks
• Share findings and recommendations with technical partners and support the path from prototype to enterprise product outcomes

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience delivering data science, NLP, or applied AI solutions
• Strong command of language modeling, text analytics, and generative AI concepts
• Experience building production-oriented RAG architectures and semantic search solutions
• Practical knowledge of agent frameworks and goal-driven AI workflows
• Understanding of distributed computation and large-scale AI system design
• Ability to evaluate model performance using quantitative analysis and structured experimentation
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline required (master’s degree preferred)
• Full-time United States work authorization required, both currently and on an ongoing basis

Valued Experience

• Exposure to case law, statutes, regulatory materials, compliance data, or comparable specialized content
• Experience balancing research innovation with reliability and product constraints

Contract Information

• 6-month contract-to-hire engagement
