Senior Data Scientist
Job Description
Capgemini is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to take a senior leadership role for an Infrastructure Intelligence and Analytics platform. This position operates during offshore hours and supports production operations, pipeline reliability, cost optimization, and the day-to-day enablement of an offshore platform engineering team.
Based in Chicago, IL and working onsite, this role combines technical ownership of production support with hands-on data and infrastructure responsibilities, spanning monitoring, incident management, automation, and collaboration across onshore teams.
Role overview
- Serve as the primary offshore owner for production support, incident management, and overall platform availability.
- Ensure production readiness and continuity for an Infrastructure Intelligence and Analytics platform during offshore hours.
- Mentor an offshore platform engineering team by establishing operational standards, runbooks, and support procedures.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain data pipelines to support data quality, freshness, and timely availability for AI agents and analytics systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, application, and data issues independently, with minimal escalation.
- Build and manage dashboards for system health, operational monitoring, and AWS/cloud cost tracking.
- Optimize AWS infrastructure usage, including AI token consumption, storage, and compute costs.
- Develop automation tools, scripts, small services, and integration solutions, primarily using Python.
- Collaborate with onshore platform, data engineering, and data science teams to support seamless operations and handoffs.
- Contribute to infrastructure architecture and operational strategy.
Required qualifications
- AWS expertise with hands-on familiarity across EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Glue, Athena, EMR, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.
- Experience with Terraform (preferred), plus CloudFormation, Docker, Linux, CI/CD, and Git-based development.
- Strong background in production support, monitoring, incident response, and cost optimization.
- Proficiency in Python for automation, tooling, and application development.
- Knowledge of data pipelines, REST APIs, cloud SDKs (boto3), testing frameworks, and software engineering best practices.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to make independent technical decisions.
- Relevant AWS certifications.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Spark, Kafka, Airflow, graph databases (Neptune/Neo4j), and AI/ML infrastructure.
- Familiarity with LLM/agent deployment, observability, and telecommunications environments.
- Experience developing production APIs/services using FastAPI or Flask.
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of platform/infrastructure engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree (including 2+ years in a lead role), or 6+ years with a master’s degree.

Compensation
- The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $140,000-$180,000.
- In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for additional compensation such as variable incentives, bonuses, or commissions, depending on the position and applicable laws.
