Job Description
Walmart is seeking a Senior Data Scientist in Bentonville, Arkansas to apply advanced analytics and machine learning to transform complex data into actionable business insights. This onsite role covers the full model lifecycle, from sourcing and preparation through development, validation, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and source relevant data from multiple business domains, ensuring data quality and suitability for analysis.
- Develop, test, and deploy advanced analytical models using machine learning and statistical techniques to address complex business problems.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and perform feature engineering to improve model accuracy and generate stronger business insights.
- Partner with stakeholders to convert business requirements into data-driven solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
- Create clear, impactful data visualizations and presentations to communicate findings and support decision-making.
- Mentor junior team members on modeling techniques, coding best practices, and data science methodologies.
- Help ensure deployed models remain scalable and sustainable through continuous evaluation and optimization.
What You’ll Bring
- Extensive data science experience with strong proficiency in Python and SQL for code development and testing.
- Expertise in machine learning, including predictive modeling, model assessment, tuning, and validation.
- Solid knowledge of data visualization tools and best practices for communicating complex insights.
- Proven ability to identify and source relevant data while maintaining data quality and alignment with business requirements.
- Understanding of model deployment, scalability, and MLOps to support production environments.
- Strong analytical skills to translate business challenges into data-driven solutions using advanced statistical methods.
- Experience mentoring junior associates and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver impactful results.
Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, plus 3 years of experience in an analytics-related field.
- Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, plus 1 year of experience in an analytics-related field.
- Option 3: 5 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data science, machine learning, and optimization models, and/or a Master’s degree in relevant areas such as Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
- Completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, and using open-source frameworks such as scikit learn, tensorflow, and torch.
- Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, including knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility into digital products and services.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices and alignment with Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines supporting an inclusive culture.
