Job Description

The Site AI Engineer role is an on-site position based in Boston, MA, partnering with project AI Champions to transform AI ideas into practical solutions. You will identify pain points, redesign workflows, and deploy agentic AI that enhances reporting, RFIs, planning, and materials tracking across Suffolk projects, advancing the Construction Site of the Future.

Location

Boston, MA (onsite)

Role

As the on-site catalyst on project teams across the United States, you partner with each project’s AI Champion to convert AI concepts into working implementations. You will uncover inefficiencies, redesign workflows, and deploy AI agents that streamline reporting, accelerate RFIs, improve lookahead planning and progress updates, and simplify materials tracking. When needed, you will define user stories and coordinate development with the central AI Studio, contributing to Suffolk’s Construction Site of the Future initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery efforts to map value streams, assess process and data maturity, and document AI use cases with high impact and low effort.
  • Assess current jobsite workflows and data foundations; identify gaps that hinder AI adoption and partner with Operations Excellence to design phased improvement plans and establish a baseline before deploying agents.
  • Evaluate off-the-shelf and platform solutions; run pilots, measure outcomes, and scale successful implementations.
  • Translate user stories into MVP AI agents using AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, ChatGPT Enterprise, and other frameworks within days; connect front-end interfaces to Teams/SharePoint and back-end data sources such as Databricks Lakehouse and AWS services.
  • Build enterprise-grade AI pipelines (Agentic RAG) backed by data stores like Opensearch; automate infrastructure with GitHub Actions; monitor latency, cost, adoption, and drift.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to design and maintain ETL pipelines, API integrations, and event-driven connectors feeding RAG and agents.
  • Coordinate cross-cloud orchestration across AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, and Azure OpenAI via secure connectors; package agents for scalable rollout.
  • Lead change enablement by training crews, collecting feedback, iterating, and tracking adoption and ROI metrics; apply behavior-change principles to embed agents into daily routines and SOPs.
  • Communicate agent impact to project leadership and clients in business terms; contribute use cases and playbooks for Suffolk's Construction Site of the Future.
  • Draft clear user stories, data specifications, and acceptance criteria for complex solutions requiring central AI Studio or Data Engineering teams; collaborate to transform prototypes into enterprise-ready applications.
  • Ensure on-site AI tools comply with Suffolk information security, data governance, and client confidentiality standards.

Requirements

  • 4–6+ years in AI engineering, full-stack data applications, or data science, including 2+ years building production LLM, RAG, or Agentic solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Prior hands-on work in construction or heavy process industries (manufacturing, oil & gas, chemicals) is a significant plus.
  • Demonstrated process excellence background (Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt highly preferred) with experience diagnosing process and data gaps and supporting change management with Operations Excellence.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Devin AI, MS Copilot, and other coding assistants.
  • Programming and data stack: Python, SQL, FastAPI, Databricks Lakehouse, vector stores.
  • DevOps and IaC: GitHub Actions, Terraform or CloudFormation automation, or comparable CI/CD tooling; solid Git/GitHub workflow discipline.
  • ETL and integration skills: foundational understanding of ETL/ELT design, Airflow or Databricks Workflows, REST/GraphQL API development; ability to collaborate with Data Engineering on source-to-lake and lake-to-agent pipelines.
  • Willing and able to travel and work on active jobsites.
